Holidays in Sri Lanka are a great opportunity to combine useful with pleasure: here you can not only relax under palm trees, but also strengthen your health, restore your vitality and energy. Ceylon is a mecca for fans of spa therapy and Ayurveda techniques. Sri Lankans gently honour their traditions and pass on the secrets of healing from generation to generation.

The word "Ayurveda" can be translated as "the science of life and longevity." This is a system of practices that originates from India, thanks to which people have been able to maintain their mental and physical health in balance for 5,000 years on. Therapy is not aimed at eliminating the symptoms, but at finding the source of the problem and getting rid of it. The causes of all diseases are considered to be negative thoughts, aggression, poor attitude to the world, poor nutrition and lifestyle. The goal of Ayurveda is to restore harmony so that a person returns to his natural state the way he was created by nature.

About 6,500 Ayurveda graduates are registered in Sri Lanka. Their training process took seven years, two more years they did practice in a traditional local hospital. You can verify their skills immediately - any therapy begins with a meeting with this specialist. Each patient is prescribed an individual course of procedures, the personal composition of medicines, a dietary system, a rest and wakefulness regime.

Such healers work at CHI Ayurveda Spa at Shangri-La’s Hambantota Golf Resort & Spa. Outwardly, it looks like a small secluded village overlooking the tropical garden. Among all the procedures, the weekend course is especially popular here, however, it is worth remembering that the maximum effect will be noticeable if you practice your procedures throughout the rest. Each program of the center is considered to be healing, and if you follow all the recommendations of an Ayurveda doctor, not only the body, but also the soul will be healthy. Any procedure in the center takes place in three stages: a massage using special oils, a herbal sauna and a bath with flower petals.

Throw off your worries

The most popular technique on the island is shirodara. This is a massage that has calming effect beyond compare. Warm oil is shed in a thin stream at special points on the forehead, including the area of the ajna chakra, the so-called “third eye”. In parallel, a light head massage is performed. It is believed that this procedure eliminates the "wind" in the head. This word means a swarm of thoughts. It is difficult for a modern person to calm down, he is constantly in a state of stress, anxiety, he is chased by chronic fatigue and depression. Shirodara relieves stress, headaches and nervous disorders. The procedure also has a cosmetic effect - wrinkles are smoothed out, hair becomes strong, and facial skin gets taut. Healing herbs balance thoughts and feelings.

Useful with pleasant

Another popular procedure is udwartanam. One of the few procedures that are carried out without the use of oils. Specialists have in their hands medicinal herbs crushed into powder with additives like chickpea, clay or soy flour. In fact, this procedure is a massage with a scrub. It is perfect for those who dream of clean and smooth skin. Thanks to massage and the special composition of the mixture, the work of the sebaceous glands improves, waste and toxins are excreted, metabolism and blood circulation are improved. Usually the procedure is carried out by two masters. They rub the powder in with their hands, elbows, feet, and even knees, while massaging and stretching the skin and working out the deep muscles. Due to this, the muscles become more elastic, and the joints become mobile. Moreover, this effect leads to free circulation of nutrients in the body and thinning adipose tissue. Each session lasts up to one and a half hours.

Bliss day

The most thorough procedure in Ayurveda is considered to be punarjiva. It is better to devote all day to this procedure. As a rule, it begins with a cup of special tea and a personal consultation with a doctor. Then a scrub is applied to the body, which rejuvenates and nourishes the skin, then come masks with the effect of deep cleansing and softening the skin. The next step is a visit to a traditional steam chamber, followed by face point massage. All together, these procedures serve to cleanse, moisturize and rejuvenate the skin, giving the face a healthy and radiant look. The ritual ends with a stimulating head massage and acupressure of the feet to stimulate blood circulation and completely relieve tension.

A characteristic feature of any spa is its relaxing atmosphere and privacy. Sri Lanka CHI Ayurveda Spa is located away from the hustle and bustle of the city, surrounded by beautiful nature. The atmosphere of seclusion promotes proper relaxation, healing and rejuvenation, and the abundance of rare plants makes it possible to prepare the best therapeutic potions.
